What is managedworks?
ManagedWorks is a toolset that will monitor devices and services on your network and report service warnings and failures to ModernWorks. Our staff receives failure notifications and will immediately respond, either notifying you of the failure or working towards repairing the failed device. The ManagedWorks toolset is comprised of the following two components:
-
A network probe located on the customer premise
-
A central server located in the ModernWorks data center
How does managedworks work?
The ManagedWorks network probe sits on the customer’s internal LAN and actively checks hosts and services that it has been configured for. The probe transmits the status information in encrypted packets to the public address of the ModernWorks Central Server. The Central Server reads the status results and updates these results for each host and service. Notifications of status result failures are sent to the ModernWorks monitoring technicians with the information of the failure. Our monitoring technicians can then act according to these results, either notifying you of the failure or working towards repairing the failure.

What can managedworks monitor?
ManagedWorks can monitor a variety of hosts and services, listed below are some common choices:
Simple Host Monitoring:
A ping test to the IP of a device to verify it responds.
Hardware Monitoring:
Memory Usage, CPU Usage, and Hard Drive Space can be monitored on both Windows and Linux style devices.
Routers and Data switches can be monitored via SNMP.
Service Monitoring:
| |
Database: |
MSSQL, MYSQL, ORACLE |
| |
Email: |
SMTP, IMAP, SIMAP, POP3, SPOP3 |
| |
Internet Services: |
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP |

Network Services: |
DNS, DHCP, LDAP (Active Directory), RADIUS |

Misc Services: |
Blackberry Server, SIPWorks |

SNMP: |
SNMP devices using v1, v2, or v3 |
How does managedworks integrate with my network?
The ManagedWorks probe needs a single static IP Address on your network, and outbound access to the Internet to send the encrypted packets. It will need to be able to reach any of the internal devices to be monitored.
Windows Hardware monitoring uses a client to gather hardware statistics.
Linux Hardware monitoring uses SSH to gather hardware statistics.
Service monitoring should not require any intervention with the exception of password protected services. If a service (example MYSQL) requires a valid username and password then a read only user will suffice for monitoring purposes.
How will managedworks benefit me?
Most problems that occur on a network are reported to the IM\IS group through a user’s perspective which relies on the application being used by the user and reporting the problem.
This reporting mechanism does not necessarily point the network administrator in the right direction as to where the problem lies as it relies on the knowledge of the end user and the accuracy of the report.
As well, what if the problem occurs outside of your regular business hours?
With ManagedWorks, major server services and networking devices can be monitored 24x7 and the problem found quickly.
In today’s technologically driven world, any downtime = loss of revenue or productivity and has the potential to affect existing customer loyalty due to a lack of confidence in your infrastructure.
ManagedWorks provides the insight into the exact host or service failing, and with this knowledge, the troubleshooting and repair process is sped up, which in the end will decrease any unscheduled downtime.
With ModernWorks 24x7 monitoring solution you can request that your own internal resources are automatically notified of any service issues.
