Prep Your Network for VoIP

TESTWorks

TESTWorks very accurately measures the quality and performance of your LAN / WAN connection for Voice over IP (VoIP) usage by simulating real VoIP sessions across the Network.

When utilizing network resources for VoIP the quality and consistency of the connection, as well as the ability of the network to move the volume of data, is crucial. You may not notice poor connection performance when browsing the web or sending emails as those functions are not very time critical -- for example a web page may download in 10 seconds instead of 5, but it still arrives in an understandable format.

On the other hand, multimedia applications such as VoIP and Video over IP are extremely sensitive to time delay in the millisecond level. This delay is often caused by a poor Quality of Service (QoS) strategy, resulting in traffic congestion, inconsistent delivery times and packet loss. When voice packets do not arrive in time it can result in words being dropped, making the call garbled and unintelligible. TESTWorks simulates VoIP traffic over your network connection and provides an analysis of the voice quality and connection speeds.

With TESTWorks How TESTWorks works
• Accurately measure jitter and packet loss of your Internet connection or between test points on your network for Voice over IP (VoIP) usage by simulating VoIP traffic.
• Managed Testing continually performs automated VoIP simulation tests between test points on your network over time.
• A local database collects all test measurements for current and future comparative analysis.
• Includes flexible reporting (graphs and charts) of your results for easy comparison and analysis of test results.
• Provides the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) measurement of your VoIP connection quality.
• Know in advance that your network is ‘VoIP ready’.
• Determine remote end-user call quality before rollout.
• Understand the impact of VoIP traffic on other mission critical data and video applications.
• Accurately determine the network capacity to handle VoIP traffic.
• Optimize QoS strategy and confirm expectations.
• Assess the impact of planned network changes on VoIP performance.

ModernWorks Inc. has developed this set of tools and also maintains and supports the server that hosts the applications. These resources are made available via the Internet. The set of tools is designed to work between two or more test points. The test points must be strategically placed on the network while maintaining access to the Internet. The diagram below shows a typical example.
